You will go “bananas” over this unique yarn. This yarn is 100% banana tree trunk fibres which have been dried, softened and spun. The texture is soft, silky and papery. It has an amazing sheen to it and can be used in a variety of projects. This is a fair trade, eco-friendly product which helps a local community in Nepal where the yarn is hand spun and hand dyed by local women. Each 200g skein is 140-150 yards (128-138 metres) in length and is knitted on larger needle sizes or crocheted on larger hook sizes. We find that sizes 6mm to 8mm work the best with this yarn.
For those of you who would like to soften up the knitted/crocheted fabric, we suggest double stranding this with mohair or another yarn of your choice. Knitting alongside another fibre also helps keep your stitches more even since there are slight variations in thickness with this hand spun yarn.
