What's New At Knitter's Addiction

Banana Fibre Yarn Has Arrived

Geoff and Ann Chilman - Wednesday, March 11, 2009
We had a interesting yarn arrive today.  It is made of 100% banana fibres!  The fibres come from the third layer of the trunk of the banana tree.  They are soaked, softened and then spun into an amazing and silky yarn.  The yarn is completely eco and environmentally friendly.

It is very similar to the sari silk yarns (that we have coming soon) and can be used in a variety of projects.  If you want to add more softeness to this yarn we suggest running a strand of mohair as a double strand in your project.  This will add a great "fluffiness" which will complement the silky shiny strands of banana fibres!

We have sourced this unique find from Nepal so each skein you buy is helping the locals in this community.  We will be posting another blog soon on this great yarn and how it is "made." This blog will be in Our Yarns About Yarn blog.
