Wonderful and Silky Sari Silk Yarns are Here! Help a Community WIth Your Purchase!

Geoff and Ann Chilman - Wednesday, March 25, 2009
Knitter's Addiction finally has its sari silk yarns!  We have sourced this from a community in Nepal where the money goes back to the spinners.  Making this yarn has provided a source of income for these women who do not have any other means of making money to support their kids and families.

The quality of this yarn is some of the best I have found amongst the sari silk yarns for sale in shops.  The women have worked hard to keep the debris and sticks to a minimum (those who have tried this yarn know what I am talking about).  Their work has resulted in some beautifully spun skeins which are quite even and full of gorgeous colour!

This yarn is great for many types of projects.  I particularly find it great for blankets, scarves, hats, jackets and items around the home (like pillow covers).  I also have found that you can mix it with some mohair to create some spectacular items with extra softness.  If you are interested in particular colours please let us know as we can always do a special order for you.  We hope you enjoy this fabulous and special yarn.

Update on "Older" 12 Ply 100% Cashmere Range Stock Levels

Geoff and Ann Chilman - Monday, March 23, 2009
You may have noticed we have had a few colours disappear from our "older" line of 12 ply 100% cashmere.  It was quite sad to see my favorite plum, turquoise and green sell out in the last few weeks. We will sadly not be getting anymore of these colours back in as we are not making them anymore.  But you do not need to worry....our Premium 12 ply 100% cashmere yarn is our great new range which is replacing the "older" 12 Ply yarn that we are phasing out and discontinuing. We will be adding more colours to the new Premium range as well as some new yarn thicknesses...so keep watching this blog for updates.

In the meantime...it is a good idea to stock up on the "Older" 12 ply 100% cashmere yarns as once the stocks are sold out, it will be gone.

Banana Fibre Yarn Has Arrived

Geoff and Ann Chilman - Wednesday, March 11, 2009
We had a interesting yarn arrive today.  It is made of 100% banana fibres!  The fibres come from the third layer of the trunk of the banana tree.  They are soaked, softened and then spun into an amazing and silky yarn.  The yarn is completely eco and environmentally friendly.

It is very similar to the sari silk yarns (that we have coming soon) and can be used in a variety of projects.  If you want to add more softeness to this yarn we suggest running a strand of mohair as a double strand in your project.  This will add a great "fluffiness" which will complement the silky shiny strands of banana fibres!

We have sourced this unique find from Nepal so each skein you buy is helping the locals in this community.  We will be posting another blog soon on this great yarn and how it is "made." This blog will be in Our Yarns About Yarn blog.

New Zealand's Touch Yarns Have Arrived

Geoff and Ann Chilman - Tuesday, February 24, 2009

We finally started getting in the great range of yarns and patterns from Touch Yarns in New Zealand.  They are absolutely fabulous.  It is some of the softest merino and kid mohair that I have found.

We also have the lovely possum yarn which is a blend of possum and merino wool.  It is so light and soft.  We have the colours black, charcoal and natural.  We will be getting the colour cranberry any day now so we will get that added to our store as soon as it arrives.  My fingers and needles are begging to get onto a project with this unique yarn!

We will be getting in more colours of the Boucle and also some special hand dyed Possum yarn as well.  These will be arriving any day now.  We will keep you posted.

Also, keep an eye out for a blog on the wonders of possum yarn.  It has an interesting story that we want to share with you.

Please let us know if you have any questions or if you are maybe looking for a particular colour in the Touch Yarns range.  We are always happy to do special orders for you!
